Purposeful about service

Basehor United Methodist Church is a vibrant and growing community devoted to growing in God’s love and sharing it with others. The church is involved in local ministries such as Bridges of Hope which provides a hot monthly meal in partnership with Central UMC in KCK.

We are also working with the local school district by providing a meal during an afterschool program focused on helping high school students graduate who have had difficulty in the traditional classroom.

The 2019 Christmas Eve offering went towards classroom grants which totaled $4200 and had a direct impact on 1,656 students in USD 458 this year.

In October 2019, we packaged over 20,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. These meals went across the globe to help feed those in need.

We are always looking for ways in which we can share the love of God with our community and the world.

Thanks to the generosity of the BUMC congregation, the Missions Committee was able to take checks to four organizations that are doing great work in our community. The second organization we donated to is one we have been partnering with for many years, Cross-Lines Community Outreach.

Located in Kansas City, KS, Cross-Lines was born in 1963 based on the idea that poverty borne problems could best be answered by looking to the community for solutions and working together to tackle them. Cross-Lines describes itself as a safety net for the community and as “a place of hope” or those struggling with the hardships of poverty. Their mission is to provide people in the Kansas City area affected by poverty with services and opportunities that encourage self-confidence, meet the needs of today, and provide tools for future self-sufficiency.

BUMC’s donation of $3000 will be used toward one or more of the many services Cross-Lines provides including Basic Needs Services (food, clothing, diapers, laundry and shower services, and certain medical and dental emergencies), the Hunger Relief Program (community kitchen, food pantry, senior commodities, community garden and orchard) and the Housing Stabilization Program (utility Assistance, rent assistance, homeless re-housing, and case management).

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our neighbors. If you would like to read more about Cross-Lines, you can visit their website at https://www.cross-lines.org/. The Mission Committee will be offering more opportunities to partner with Cross-Lines in the future.
